To Walk or Not to Walk...

On Saturday I went to a fashion show that was held here in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area...fashion is not prominent here so you will probably never see a high fashion or actual runway show in within the immediate area. So I attended this show as I was requested to by my friend and it was nice but me being the jerk that I am I will nitpick in certain areas. My first issue was that they had a commentator through out the whole show...I thought that he was only going to speak in the beginning or during the scene changes but he talked the WHOLE time...and I probably would not have even had a problem with him had he not been speaking in Ebonics. Then I thought for a slight moment that he was only going to say who they were wearing...but no he was hyping the models for their walk it was so ghetto. There were also male models there that walked like females (switching and all) and there were a couple that were actually considered females but it was obvious that they were males which is not so bad but its not really appropriate for runway.

On Sunday I was at another show that was held in a bridal boutique in Georgetown, this show was okay but it definitely could have been better...the garments did not fit some of the models and there was not enough models which resulted in a faulty line up. During the run through it was not made clear what garments would be worn in the finale or whether there would even be a finale so that resulted in major confusion. I was the only dresser and there was two models who had never walked before so they needed me every second that they were undressing which kept me from assisting the models that had to go back out. It was pure chaos but I made sure to let the owner know that we need more models for the next show, I was told that the problem was that everyone had prior engagements which means that they should be informed well ahead so that we will not come out at the short end of the stick. For example there is a show in March that we are supposed to show at as well, so why not let the models know the dates and other information now so that they can make plans and arrangements. It's not rocket science...simply common sense.

I think that people should understand that not every pretty and skinny female can not be a model, not even skinny cause at the show on Saturday the girls were slim but bottom heavy so lets say slender. Just because you want to do a certain thing or aspire to have a profession does not mean it is the right thing for you...this is why some people spend their whole lives being unhappy. Being a model is not all glamorous like it is cracked up to be...it is not easy and it can be very draining, people should think twice about pursuing this profession or pushing their children toward this profession.

The lack of style on the tele

So everyone knows that I love reality shows and one of my favorite shows it the Real Housewives series...not a specific one but all of them (Orange County, New York City, and Atlanta) with my all time favorite being Atlanta because I sooooo love Ne Ne. For those who don't know the show comes one Bravo every Tuesday at 10 o'clock and it is one hour long. This is the best reality show I have ever watched but like all reality shows there is a little phoniness, like on the Atlanta series Kim was theeeee fakest because she sat there and talked about Sheree one episode and then the next episode they were best friends telling each other how beautiful the other was. The current series is Orange County which was the original of the whole show, there is only two of the original housewives left and they are Vicki and Jeana, both are great independent women with strong careers but like everyone else they do have issues.

Here is where my issue arises with this show and many other reality shows...more so the ones that feature celebrities and those who claim to have money...they look sooooooo cheap. Like on the the episode of Real Housewives that came on last night, Tamara had her little like confession and during her confession she had on a kelly green shirt that was sleeveless and had ruffles around the neckline and it was silk and extra shiny so home girl looked like a head of lettuce...it was awful. The episode from last week the new housewife Lynne let her daughters wear some of her dresses to dinner and they all looked like they came from RAVE and her daughter had the nerve to cry when her boyfriend said she looked like a stripper. I mean me personally I would want my 15 year old daughter to look her age and she can't possibly look her age if she is wearing the things that I wear to go out with my friends...that is unless I dress like I am 15 which I definitely don't so that would be a no go for me. People think that because they have money that they are allowed to wear whatever they like and dress however they like which is extremely false...if us normal people have to be judged when we decide to wear random articles of clothing then damn it they have to be judged as well. It's not only when they are out on their own time that these people look janky (something of inferior quality) but it is also when they go to events, dinner parties, and gallery openings. For example on the Real Housewives of Atlanta Lisa Hartwell was at a launch party for her jewelery I believe and your girl had on a satin green and white dress with black tights and black knee high Christian Louboutin's...no comment necessary. Another episode Lisa wore those same boots (I think they were her favorite) with a suit to show a house (she was a real estate agent) to Jazze Pha, I don't think knee high boots are ever considered appropriate when doing business unless you are a stripper or hooker..the fact that they are Louboutins grants her a slice of class but not much. They are still knee high boots.

Some one else who style absolutely irks my nerves is Mariah Carey...why is she like 40 or so dressing like a teenager. Those belly shirts with the tight jeans and the sandals is so played out...I have probably seen her in something that makes her look even remotely close to her age probably once which is definitely not good. Okay so when I said teenager that was definitely an under statement she dresses like a total pre teen which once again she is not...while she is sitting around paying people to organize her huge dumb closet filled with extra small Hello Kitty tee shirts she should pay somebody to buy her some Tahari dresses or Carolina Herra blouses so she can look like an adult. She is just too childish for my taste and awfully tacky...sucks to be her but then again it may be cool because you could find a semi cute little black boy some ten years years younger than you (Nick Cannon) and get matching tattoos. Personally not my style but hey whatever.

Post New Year...

So New Year's Eve I went out... as I stated I was going to do in my previous post and I had a real good time. I ended up wearing a black dress that was banded at the bottom and it was short, kind of like a mini...I ended up wearing some black pumps that have cutouts around the top of the foot(near the toe) and are studded with Sushi Flower eye shadow and Ruby Woo lipstick which is red...I looked decent. The club was extra packed (as I expected) so at first I was not feeling it...there were people everywhere, I could not get my coat checked because the line was extra long and I hate standing in line and I just felt cramped so I found me a spot at the bar and there I stayed. I had a couple of drinks which did not help because I was not feeling good so by like 12:30 I was ready to go...but then I saw my bartender hugging this blonde so I observed her and figured out that it was his girlfriend, she made eye contact and smiled I returned the smile and the rest is history. We partied so hard after that...we had some shots and some more drinks so by the time I left the club I was leaning...in a good way, outside I exchanged numbers with a couple of males and then we proceeded to IHOP. All in all the new year was cool...I had fun and I made a new friend so I am content.

Now on to the things that I saw people wearing on this glorious occasion...I thought that if you did not dress up on any other night of the year you were supposed to dress up on New Year's Eve, I mean it's only one night. There were females in the club with leggings and cheap little Rave (look up disposable clothing) dresses and things it was just awful...then there were the people who decided to wear jeans which I just thought was totally inappropriate because if you wanted to wear jeans you could have stayed at home. Okay so there were also people who decided to wear fur that night which is cool but you're going to walk around the club all night with your full length faux fur on? Please...even if it was real that would still be tacky, full length furs look better on older women anyways, I think I was just annoyed to be honest.

Since the new year has begun I have not really done anything...I was hungover on Thursday so Bean (my little sister) and I went to Potomac Mills to browse Nordstrom Rack which had absolutely nothing...all I found was a little hoodie, a tee shirt, and a necklace which cost me $18 in total. Potomac Mills is just really shot to hell though...there was so many people there and a majority of them were ages 15-21 and they were hanging out, not shopping, not looking, but standing in little pods taking up space, I was extremely annoyed. At the GAP outlet I found a cute little navy boat neck dress for $14.99 and Bean got two cardigans (cream and navy) for $13.99 a piece and they have little rhinestone covered buttons...extremely cute for the little lady. Which reminds me...the other day I went to Target in Greenbelt in an attempt to find something to wear for the night and I found two boyfriend cardigans one gray and one brown for $6.24 a piece which was practically a steal; they are perfect! Cardigans are ideal for everyone because they go with pretty much anything, they are cheap, they add warmth without the bulk, and they do not dictate your outfit... cardigans are perfect for rainy days and can be worn with any fabric from chiffon to wool all the while keeping you stylish and quaint. Enough with my spiel on cardigans, we also went to PG Plaza (The Mall at Prince George's) and I found a little knit harem pant at Ashley Stewart which I normally don't shop at but I knew that they would have those pants because they carry the trendier styles for plus size woman, the quality is just garbage...but at $15.00 I will not complain. We found a cute LBD (little black dress)for $21.00 and a cute full black skirt with stitched down pleats for $28.00 both at GAP...and I found a nice navy deep V-neck Pocket tee that is tissue weight for $6.97, you can't beat that with a stick. Amazingly after finding these greats finds I still could not find anything to wear to go out last night...:( it seems as though since the holidays are over there isn't anything left in the stores and the things that are left are...*AHEM* leftovers and everyone knows I HATE leftovers. So since I cannot find the things that I want to wear I will make them and that way I will be the only one with them and I don't have to worry about not finding my size and so on...I'm off to enjoy the rest of this Saturday.
